Rodney Davis Continues to Duck Tough Questions on Paul Ryan Budget
In a candidate forum on Saturday, May 12th, days before Rodney Davis was chosen by a panel of 14 Republican Party County Chairpersons in a closed-door nomination process, Habeeb Habeeb, the moderator of the forum and the Chairman of the Champaign County Republican Central Committee, posed a direct question to the candidates: “Will you support the Ryan budget proposal? If not why?”
Rodney Davis’s one-word response: “Ditto.” True to style, instead of answering the question, Davis used the answer of the previous respondent: “I would support the Ryan budget in concept. There are some tweaks that I think that I’d make to it, but in concept he was right on.”
“Apparently, Rodney Davis not only borrows budget plan ideas off Paul Ryan, he seems to have lifted Paul Ryan’s entire playbook,” said Dr. David Gill’s press secretary, Lucy Stein.
The moderator of tonight’s vice presidential debate posed a similarly direct question to Paul Ryan: “You have refused — and, again — to offer specifics on how you pay for that 20 percent across-the-board tax cut. Do you actually have the specifics? Or are you still working on it, and that’s why you won’t tell voters?” Paul Ryan ducked the question entirely, regurgitating vague assertions and meaningless Republican talking-points.
Employing the same ducking tactics, Rodney Davis again avoided answering which of the draconian Ryan budget cuts he supports during a State Journal-Register endorsement interview on Monday.
“I think the voters in this district deserve to know where Rodney Davis stands on the radical Romney/Ryan plan to turn Medicare into a voucher program and privatize social security. And “Ditto” doesn’t cut it.” said Dr. David Gill. “I oppose any attempts to turn Medicare into a voucher program or put social security at the mercy of the stock market. These dangerous Republican plans will harm seniors and middle class families.”
