The Federal Reserve issued a report calling 2001-2011 the “lost decade” for the American Middle Class. During that decade, the average middle-class family lost more than 40% of its net worth. Much of that erosion can be tied to the housing bubble bursting, but a significant drop in income during the same time contributed to it as well.
Simply put, the middle-class and working people are falling behind—many falling out of the middle class entirely while top-tier earners are doing better than ever.
David Gill believes much of the blame for this lies squarely at the feet of our nation’s policy makers, especially those in Washington, DC. Politicians on both sides of the aisle have been too willing to pass laws that benefit the wealthiest few and big corporations at the expense of the rest of the country.
David Gill is ready to change that and work to restore and revive the American Dream for middle-class families.
David Gill knows that when the American middle class is working, our nation is working. When the middle class is prospering, our nation prospers. When we invest in education to help lift low-income families into the middle class, our nation’s overall financial outlook improves.
We need to send new leaders like David to Congress who are honest about what’s happened in America to middle-class people and ready to make the tough choices to turn things around.
