David Gill knows it’s crazy that taxpayers are coughing up $20 billion a year in corporate welfare for oil and gas companies—especially at a time when they are racking up record profits. While we pay nearly $4 a gallon at the pump, big oil companies are enjoying record profits and a windfall in tax subsidies funded by middle-class taxpayers.
David knows is doesn’t make sense and we just can’t afford it. He will demand an end to tax breaks for oil giants and will work to crack down on the Wall Street oil speculators who drive up gas prices.
David also knows how critical it is to support and encourage homegrown, green sources of energy. Wind farms are transforming the landscape of the 13th district and Illinois can be a leading source for biomass fuels. Leading research institutions likes U of I and ISU can help design and develop the next generation of wind turbines and clean, renewable sources of energy if we ensure they have the seed money necessary to allow new ideas to take root.
