Our part of Illinois has some of the world’s richest and most productive farmland and is home to major agricultural businesses, small businesses that support local farms and family-owned farming operations.
The Mississippi River is a major transportation artery moving over a billion bushels of grain a year. David Gill knows it’s time to update the infrastructure along the river to keep Illinois crops and products moving so our region can maintain its competitive advantage in agriculture. Dr. Gill will work closely with Senator Dick Durbin and other Members of the Illinois congressional delegation on bi-partisan legislation to increase lock and dam capacity and improve the ecosystem of the Upper Mississippi and Illinois Rivers.
David Gill will support new initiatives in alternative fuels that can keep our agricultural economy growing—like bio-diesel and biomass energy to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, clean our air and create new jobs in rural areas. David also realizes that our rural communities cannot thrive without access to the technology they need to succeed. He supports working in partnership with state and local officials to expand existing broadband networks and create new networks to bring high-speed internet service to more rural areas.
As a family practice and emergency room doctor who has worked for much of his career in underserved communities, David Gill knows the health of our small towns depends on keeping rural hospitals and clinics open. Dr. Gill will oppose Republican budget plans that shut down rural hospitals while they give tax breaks to millionaires and big oil companies.
